syzygy

PROMPT: SYZYGY

September 16, 2019.

Today’s prompt is the word syzygy (syz·y·gy).

Syzygy can be traced to the Greek syzygos (“yoked together”), a combination of syn- (“with, together with”) and zygon (“yoke”). Its first know use was circa 1847.

It is defined as:

  • the nearly straight-line configuration of three celestial bodies (such as the sun, moon, and earth during a solar or lunar eclipse) in a gravitational system
  • any two related things, either alike or opposite

The prompt is to use it in a short writing.
