Writers in the Grove long-time members, Roger and Helen Ritchey will be signing books and sharing their specialty fruit wines along with some great bluegrass music from 4-7PM on October 24, 2015, at Jennings McCall in Forest Grove, Oregon.

The re-opening of the Forest Grove Senior and Community Center Flea Market is Saturday, October 10, 2015, coinciding with the Writers in the Grove Annual Book Sale and Fundraiser, also for the Center.
From 9am – 4pm there will be a variety of booths in the Center featuring our book sale, handmade crafts, antique collectibles, jewelry, and a mini quilt show. The Gift Shop will be having a clearance sale and there will be drawings for prizes and food carts outside for some fun bites to eat.
The next scheduled dates are November 14 and December 12, 2015. If you live in Washington County, Oregon, or in the surrounding areas, this is a great event to catch up on your holiday shopping lists.

Diana Lubarsky, member of Writers in the Grove, will be presenting a program of story and poetry at the Forest Grove Library in Forest Grove, Oregon, on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at 7PM in the Rogers Room.
Diana Lubarsky (D.K. Lubarsky) is world renown for her sculpture and poetry on the subject of the Holocaust. A sculpture for over 35 years, her work is on display around the world and a permanent collection at the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. She will bring six of her more than 60 works from her Holocaust Images collection to the library as well as the poetry pieces that accompany each work.

Writers in the Grove member Bunny Hansen will be presenting a writing workshop on Literary Prompts on Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Forest Grove Senior and Community Center at 9AM to 11AM.
Literary hooks are the opening sentence or sentences within novels, prose, and poetry that grab the attention of the reader and keep them reading, compell them to keep reading.
This is a repeat of her successful presentation presented at a recent Saturday Writing Workshop at the Forest Grove Library.

Lorelle VanFossen is presenting an informal free workshop on Scrivener Basics in her home north of North Plains, Oregon, at 6:30PM on Thursday July 23. She has already released an ongoing Scrivener series of tutorials, videos, and guides to help you learn more about how Scrivener works. These are the workshop notes as well.

We will go slow as we can but it will help if you watch a few of the videos and read the referenced articles in What is Scrivener, Scrivener: Bootcamp, and Scrivener: Organize Your Writing and Thinking. The latter article will help you get your head around the difference between working with a word processor and Scrivener.
You will be required to bring your laptop with Scrivener installed. If you do not have it, go to Literature and Latte to get Scrivener as a free trial or paid downloadable (or order CD) version. The laptop does not have to be wifi enabled but it helps. You will also need a mouse (trackpad is painful but works), power cords for the laptop, and extra batteries for the mouse.
If you would like to bring food, drinks, and snacks to share, that would be appreciated. We will snack and work as there is much to cover.
To speed up the process, please bring a COPY file of a writing project you are working on (one or more files), pictures, scanned images or documents, and other digital research material you are using for your writing project.
This is a one time event. A follow-up event may be possible, or a class series at the Senior Center this fall if the demand is high enough.
Christina Abt, author of Crown Hill and contributor to many anthologies and collections including Chicken Soup books, will be speaking at Writer’s in the Grove’s Monday workshop on August 10, 2015, from 9-11AM at the Forest Grove Senior and Community Center in Forest Grove, Oregon. She will be speaking about the changes in the publishing industry and how to get your book published. She will also be on a book tour with Barnes and Nobel throughout the Pacific Northwest and the country in general.
Mark Thalman is an acclaimed author and poet. Writers in the Grove is honored to have him present a short workshop on Monday, June 22, 2015, at 9AM at the Forest Grove Community and Senior Center in Forest Grove, Oregon.
He will be talking about the art and work behind being a published author, including helping us learn more about poetry styles and techniques.
The workshop is free and open to all.

Writers in the Grove is working with the Forest Grove Library and other writers groups and educational institutions to celebrate the William Stafford Centennial Celebrations to honor his birth.
Throughout 2013-14, we will be involved with special events and activities to not only honor the Poet Laureate of the United States and Oregon, but study and learn more about his work.

William Stafford is a famous American poet and pacifist, and was the 20th Consultant in Poetry to the US Library of Congress, today known as the Poet Laureate. Born in the depression, his family migrated around the country looking for work, and when the draft came for World War II, already in university studies, he declared himself a conscientious objector and registered pacifist. At the age of 46, his first major collection of poetry was published, Traveling Through the Dark, filled with poetic stories and impressions of his interactions with nature and farm life, honoring the words he used to describe himself as one of “the quiet of the land.” It won the 1963 National Book Award for Poetry. He published over 65 volumes of poetry and prose before his death in 1993
Stafford and his wife moved to Oregon to teach at Lewis and Clark College, where he remained until his retirement in 1980. To honor the 100th anniversary of his birth, the state of Oregon held a Centennial Celebration, and Writers in the Grove joined the celebration with special projects, events, readings, prompts, and educational sessions.
